Quite a few times I’ve mentioned how much I love turmeric because it’s so great for reducing inflammation in the body. During this week I’ve been having a cup a day in the afternoon. Not only is it delicious and filling but I find it to be so relaxing as well. It’s a great alternative to an afternoon cup of coffee and I also love it before bed.
There are many variations when it comes to making this fabulous drink; you can use either fresh or dried turmeric, also any type of milk works well. I particularly like raw cow’s milk or coconut milk and also you can add any other spices you want (cinnamon and ginger are particularly delicious). The one important thing is to always add a pinch of black pepper and some fat in order to absorb the curcumin which is the active compound of turmeric.
The easiest way to make it by heating up a cup of your milk of choice, add a little teaspoon of ground turmeric, half a teaspoon of ground cinnamon and ground ginger, a pinch of black pepper and a teaspoon of coconut oil, ghee or both (like I always do). Using a whisk incorporate the mixture very well and don’t let it boil. Once it reaches your desired temperature, take off the heat, pour in a cup and if desired add a little teaspoon of raw honey to sweeten it up.
Whenever I’m fighting some inflammation in my body I go to this drink and it never disappoints and I recommend it to everybody with anything related to inflammation or liver problems since it also happens to be a very detoxifying drink.
If you haven’t tried it yet, I recommend you do!
