Coconut oil has been extremely popular in the last years and with good cause considering it’s a very nutritious food rich in healthy fats that can help reduce inflammation in the body, improve brain function, boost metabolism, help fight candida and many more things.
In Weston Price’s amazing book, he describes his visit to see some tribes that relied heavily on coconuts as part of their diets and these were very healthy people with strong bodies and great teeth. In the book it was also mentioned how those people also used coconut oil on their skin to protect it from the sun.
Coconut oil is extremely versatile and can be used in many ways all the way from cooking and baking, to making deodorant, body moisturisers, hair treatments, udder treatment for cows and goats and many more amazing things.
I love using it as a facial and body moisturiser when I’m not using my homemade tallow cream and it leaves my skin soft without feeling greasy and most importantly it doesn’t give me acne. I also like applying it to my skin when I’m going to spend some time in the sun; it’s been a while since I used sunscreen. Coconut oil gives some natural sun protection, and while it’s not as protective as a sunscreen, I prefer to use it and spend a bit less time in the sun.
I also take a little bit between my hands and apply it to the ends of my hair which helps reduce frizz, smells delicious and makes my hair softer. However, if applied in the roots, it can make it very oily.
I don’t really use coconut oil in cooking so much but I absolutely love adding 1 tablespoon to a cup of tea. It’s a great way to consume all those wonderful nutrients. Coconut oil is a great tool when it comes to eliminating candida because it contains Caprylic Acid, Capric Acid and Lauric Acid which are natural anti-fungals.
Taking 1-2 tablespoons of coconut oil a day has been shown to have a great effect in our brain health, metabolism and energy levels. Since coconut oil doesn’t need to be broken down by the liver, it is a great source of energy and very helpful when you are trying to become fat efficient.
Do you like coconut oil? How do you use it?
