I’ve heard about warm water with lemon for such a long time, but I didn’t try it until recently. Recently I was in a supermarket in Bogota and I saw that the lemons looked beautiful and juicy, so I got some and decided to try drinking warm water with lemons in the morning.
I have to say that from the moment I tried it, I loved the taste of it. I normally had apple cider vinegar in my water, but that is not a particularly tasty drink and in fact I didn’t look forward to it most mornings. Other times I would just drink plain water but it’s cold and rather hard to drink, so I needed to make an effort to drink water before anything else.
Warm water with lemon though is gentle in flavour unlike the ACV drink, and is refreshing and soothing. I have been drinking it for about a month a half and I honestly look forward to drinking it every morning. It’s not just the lemon, it’s also the temperature of the water that makes it so easy to drink the water. It doesn’t feel like a shock compared with cold water.
What I can say about it is that it makes hydration first thing in the morning effortless and enjoyable. Hydration first thing in the morning is super important for proper functioning of digestion, liver function, energy levels, clear thinking, etc. Once I drink my lemon water I feel energised and ready to start my day.
Lemon is a great source of vitamin C which is a great antioxidant, great for immunity and liver function. My skin lately is looking really good and while I’m doing lots of things for it, I like to think that the lemon water has something to do with it as well.
Since Vitamin C is sensitive to heat, it is important for the water to be only warm, not hot. Also adding a bit of the zest adds extra Vitamin C. I bring some water to the boil and fill my cup only half way, the rest is filled with cold water so I get the perfect temperature. Then I squeeze the lemon and add the squeezed rind to the tea. When I finish it, I have a drink of plain water to rinse my mouth, since lemons are acidic and can damage the enamel of the teeth.
Overall, I think it is a great thing to put in your body after rising, not only beneficial but also energising and delicious!
Do you like lemon water? What do you eat or drink first thing in the morning?
