Reusable water bottles are some of the best things I’ve ever bought. I can bring clean, filtered water everywhere I go, they save me money and most of all I don’t have to drink out of plastic bottles which are full of hormone disrupting BPA, phthalates, PVC and who knows what else, plus they create so much trash too.
About eight years ago I got my first reusable bottle; a klean kanteen stainless steel bottle. I still have it after all this time! I love this bottle mainly because it is so strong and resilient. It is actually full of scratches and has had quite a few bumps yet it is still in great condition. This is one I bring everywhere without having to worry about a thing. Something I love too about it is that there are no sharp edges, the bottle is completely rounded so that no bacteria collects in tiny pockets and also, there is no lining of different materials.
There are a few things I don’t like about stainless steel bottles though: First of all, when the weather is very hot, the water gets a bit of a funny taste. Like the taste of boiled water. Not a big deal, but the water doesn’t taste so fresh. Also, if it’s very warm, the bottle will get hot quite quickly.
I was getting tired of using that bottle for so long so I went to get a new one. This time I went for a glass bottle by life factory. I love the glass bottle because first of all, it’s much prettier, but most of all because the taste of the water never changes when it’s warm, or any other time. The water stays tasting fresh the entire time and it takes a bit longer for the water to get hot under warm conditions.
On the other hand though, it’s heavier and although the glass is very thick and has a protective silicon sleeve, it is still glass and can break. This is not a bottle I would bring for a hike in the mountains. Actually every time I have it with me I pay attention to it so it doesn’t fall and break.
I love and use both bottles for different reasons. They have been great investments and have become something I would not be comfortable without. Which one is better? It depends on what you need it for.
Do you use reusable water bottles? What’s your favourite type?
