I’m always looking for foods or herbs that support liver function. The reason for this is that when the liver is healthy, it is a huge boost for the skin, sleep, digestion and energy, among many other things.
The liver is one of the main organs in charge of detoxifying the body and can get overburdened very easily due to eating the wrong foods, being exposed to toxic chemicals, fragrances, parabens in beauty products, and the list goes on. Basically we live in quite a toxic world.
Chlorella is a genus of single-celled algae which contains chlorophyll, the green pigment of plants. Body fat accumulates 100 times the toxins than the blood, and one of the ways to eliminate these from fat is to take chlorella. The liver is also a fatty organ, and so chlorella can help to rid the liver of toxins too.
I do as much as possible for my liver and to be honest it is hard to tell what exactly does what, but chlorella is something I take on and off. There is an impressive amount of research supporting its benefits for detoxitification of the body and particularly useful for removing heavy metals such as mercury. It is also a great help for the liver and the digestive system.
The taste of chlorella reminds me of the taste of spirulina, but a bit less strong. You can buy it in powder or tablet form. The ones I buy have had the cell wall already broken down which means they get absorbed very easily by the body, so try to get something like that since chlorella has a very strong cell wall. I like chewing them or simply adding them smoothies.
Have you tried chlorella? Do you like it?
