Today I give you my opinion on bulletproof coffee which is coffee with grass-fed butter and MCT or coconut oil. While I love the flavour and texture of it and love the ingredients in it, the problem with bulletproof coffee is the claim that it will not break your fast in the morning.
A cup of bulletproof coffee while having low impact on insulin levels contains between 400 and 500 calories which is basically a food and so it breaks the fast. A fast is defined by a lack of food. The only coffee that will not break a fast is a plain black coffee with nothing added. On the other hand, bulletproof coffee as a breakfast replacement or as part of the diet is a great source of healthy fats and can provide steady energy.
